  • How can we contact Dr Grad to be informed when the daily POEM will restart? Thank you!

Overview

In this session, we will discuss strategies for keeping up with new developments in Medicine. I will lead off our discussion by describing an approach based on the daily POEM.

Here’s how it works. POEMs are concise summaries of recently published clinical studies. They are offered to physicians in a continuing medical education program supported by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).

On weekdays, the CMA emails a daily synopsis of a research paper called a POEM, to physicians. After reading each POEM, many physicians earn credits by rating them using a validated questionnaire. Then, for each POEM, we calculate a relevance rating using responses from one of the questions in the questionnaire. I use this process to identify and discuss the most relevant POEMs of the year in a review article in American Family Physician. See the pdf I uploaded called “Top research articles of 2022 for primary care physicians”.

This data-informed approach based on the daily POEM is a great way to keep up with the literature.

Objectives

1. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to describe how the daily POEMs program provides a strategy for identifying relevant, valid evidence for practice.

2. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to describe how the top POEMs of the year will affect their practice.
