Dr. Richard Sheppard is an Attending Cardiologist in the JGH Division of Cardiology, where he is a subspecialist in congestive heart failure. Among his areas of interest are the impact that different forms of genes can have on congestive heart failure; recent-onset cardiomyopathy (deterioration in the function of the heart muscle); and exercise physiology and congestive heart failure. Dr. Sheppard obtained his M.D. from McGill University and went on to receive training and certification in internal medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital (1996-1999), and in cardiovascular medicine at the McGill University Health Centre (1999-2002). In addition, he pursued a Congestive Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplant Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre (2002-2003), and a Cardiovascular Research Fellowship in congestive heart failure at the Montreal Heart Institute (2003-2004). Dr. Sheppard is Assistant Professor of Medicine in McGill's Faculty of Medicine and delivers lectures on a regular basis on different aspects of heart failure. He is a member of various organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and the Quebec Heart Failure Society.
